Ara: With a view to creating awareness about both sports and education among the mahadalit children, particularly among the Musahar community, a three-day cricket tournament is being organised at the Veer Kunwar Singh Stadium, Ara, beginning Friday.
The ‘Mata Shabri Cricket Tournament’ would be inaugurated by additional chief secretary (ACS), education department, S Siddharth.
The tournament is being organised by a social worker Bhim Singh Bhavesh, who received an appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme for his relentless effort to uplift the condition of the Musahar community children.
“The purpose behind organising the tournament is to bring the children from the mahadalit community into the mainstream of the society because they, especially those belonging to the Musahar community, have a very low literacy rate. The tournament would foster a supportive environment that encourages learning alongside sportsmanship among the Musahar community children,” he said.
On the second day of the tournament, Health Department secretary, Sanjay Kumar Singh and VKSU vice-chancellor, Shailendra Kumar Chaturvedi, will administer oath to the children to inculcate interest in education. On the concluding day, additional chief secretary, Revenue and Rural Work Department, Deepak Kumar Singh, will distribute prizes among the winners,” said Bhavesh.
He said altogether 20 teams are participating in the tournament. “All the players will be provided with sporting gear to participate in the tournament,” said Bhavesh.
Bhojpur DM and DDC Tanai Sultania and Anupama Singh respectively, FUTAB working president Kanhaiya Bahadur Sinha, Ara mayor Indu Devi and other dignitaries would be present at the tournament, he said.
