Bihar Bypolls Witness 52% Turnout Amidst Peaceful Voting | Patna News – Times of India



Patna: Barring stray incidents of minor skirmishes, the bypolls to four Assembly seats in the state on Wednesday was peaceful, with an estimated 52.84% turnout. The polling was held at 1,273 booths across four assembly constituencies, which included Imamganj, Belaganj, Tarari, and Ramgarh.
As per the information provided by the Election Commission, a maximum of 56.21% of voters cast their votes in Belaganj, followed by 54.02% in Ramgarh, 51.01% in Imamganj, and 50.10% in Tarari. Today’s polling will decide the fate of 38 candidates, including five women. Of the four constituencies where bypolls were held, three are held by the Grand Alliance and one by the NDA.
An EC official said altogether 1,277 control units, an equal number of ballot units, as well as VVPATs, were used to conduct polling, which remained under the eyes of four election observers. “All through the polling time, we received a total of three complaints, and they were instantly resolved,” the official said.
A report received from the state police headquarters said the police department deployed 7,000 security forces in addition to 2,550 home guards to conduct free and fair polling in those constituencies. Apart from them, the department also deployed horse-mounted police and bomb disposal squads.
In addition to that, adequate police forces were deployed at the 16 checkposts which came up at the places bordering Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, while another police team kept a constant watch on social media. During the polling, the police also arrested four people as a preventive measure.
There was a report of skirmishes between two groups of people at Dharmpur village under the Tarari constituency, but the matter was instantly resolved by the police. “Two groups of people indulged in a fight, but it had no impact on the polling process,” police officer, KK Singh, told the media on Wednesday.
