Bihar College Denies 60 Students Entry to Exam Over Dress Code Violation | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: The principal of a govt inter college in Siwan district on Monday prevented 60 students from appearing in the Intermediate sent-up examination as they, violating the dress code issued by the education department, had arrived at the exam centre clad in casuals.
The sent-up exam is a prerequisite for the students to qualify for final Intermediate exams expected to be held in February or March next year.
However, considering that this step could damage their career, the principal announced re-examination on November 20, with the condition that the students come to the exam centre in the college’s dress code—blue trousers and white shirts.
Sources said altogether 376 students reached the SS High School-cum-Inter College at Bhagwanpur Hat, to appear in the Intermediate sent-up exam, which began on Monday. However, 60 of them arrived at the exam centre clad in jeans and T-shirts, in violation of the college’s dress code.
What angered the principal was that a few of them were wearing ripped and distressed jeans, which are in fashion these days.
“We banned 60 students from appearing in the Intermediate sent-up exam since they came in jeans and T-shirts, while some also carried cellphones. A few students were also seen making videos of the woman schoolteachers,” College principal Lalbabu Kumar told this reporter on Wednesday. He added that he only tried to implement the education department’s order of the dress code as issued by former education secretary K K Pathak.
The principal said he gave two hours to the erring students to change and come to the college’s in dress code, but they refused. “Later, considering their future, and following the intervention of police and guardians, we decided to hold a fresh exam for them on November 20,” the principal said.
