Cuttack: Body of a 13-year-old student, who was missing since Monday, was recovered from the Mahanadi river in Cuttack’s Sikharpur area on Tuesday, police said.
The victim, Biswakarma Gateswar Ojha, was a Class VI student of a private English medium school. He had been missing since Monday evening after he did not return home from school. His family lodged a missing person complaint with Mangalabag police station following a search.
Locals spotted a body floating near the Kaliaboda area around 3 pm on Tuesday and immediately alerted the police. A firefighting team was pressed into action and the body was recovered after a 30-minute search operation.
“The victim’s father has identified the body,” said Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena. “We have registered an unnatural death case and sent the body to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.”
The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the student’s death. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death. Further investigation is under way,” the DCP added.
