Violent Clash Over Festival Donation Injures Four Family Members in Nayagarh | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: At least four members of a family were injured in a violent group clash at Chandibasta village under Town Police Station limits in Nayagarh district on Tuesday. The injured were identified as Somnath Palei, his father Budhia, uncle Dahima and grandmother Sushila.
They were initially admitted to Nayagarh community health centre, from where three of them were shifted to Capital Hospital and AIIMS in Bhubaneswar as their condition deteriorated.
Sources said the clash occurred over a donation collection to organise a festival in the village. The other group opposed the move and allegedly attacked the family.
Locals say the attackers allegedly belonged to BJD and opposed the festival as it was being reportedly organised by some BJP supporters.
Police, however, denied there was any such political angle and launched an investigation into the incident based on a complaint they had received.
“We received information about the clash and attended to the injured persons. Three of them sustained serious injuries on the head and neck,” Town Police inspector in-charge Rashmiranjan Mohapatra said.
He stated that testimonies of eyewitnesses are being recorded and the miscreants involved in the violent attack will be arrested soon. “A detailed investigation is ongoing in the case,” Mohapatra said.
