Ara: A speeding truck crushed a 40-year-old biker to death and dragged his body for several metres Monday morning in Bhojpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Bahadur Rai, a resident of Chhotka Chanda village in Koilwar. The accident occurred near the Jhalkunagar intersection on the Ara-Chhapra main road. According to the police, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled after the incident.
“The accident occurred around 10am. The truck has been seized and efforts are underway to identify the absconding driver.” Koilwar police station house officer (SHO) Narottam Chandra told TOI.
Meanwhile, enraged residents blocked the Ara-Chhapra road after the incident. The police, however, pacified the protesters and dispersed the crowd by afternoon. “The protesters were demanding adequate compensation for the deceased’s family and arrest of the driver,” the SHO added.
