Cops Investigate Sameer Mansuri: Bihar Native Arrested for Rape and Extortion in Jagatsinghpur |
Bhubaneswar: City police have sought the help of their Kashmir and Bihar counterparts to gather more details about Sameer Mansuri (25), a Bihar native arrested for allegedly raping and extorting a girl from Jagatsinghpur district.
Police have also sought Mansuri’s remand from the court for further interrogation. While two of his mobile phones were sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) to retrieve videos, pictures and messages to ascertain how he blackmailed the girl, his antecedents in his native place and Kashmir are yet to be ascertained.
Police said they have taken the help of Kashmir and Bihar police to find out more details about Mansuri, such as whether he is a habitual offender, his job profile, when he went to Kashmir, and whether he has links with any organisation.
“We have applied for his remand. If the accused committed other similar crimes, we will obtain information and also find out all his digital transactions. We will also find out if he has criminal records in other states, aprt from Bihar and Kashmir. We have assigned the case to a woman assistant commissioner of police. We have taken up counselling of the survivor. I appeal to the people not to suppress information about such cheats and inform the police immediately,” said commissioner of police S Dev Datta Singh.
His remand may help the cops to find out how many girls he befriended through the gaming app. Police have so far learnt that Mansuri, who was involved in electrical repair and fitting work in Kashmir, used his first name, Sameer, to gain the trust of women. Officials identified him as Md Sameer Mansuri on the basis of his Aadhaar card, PAN card and driving licence. Police on Saturday ruled out that Mansuri ever customised his first name to woo girls considering the spelling of his name on the documents.
Mansuri came into contact with the Jagatsinghpur girl through an online game in 2022. They became friends soon, but she began to avoid Mansuri after she came learnt about his surname. The survivor met Mansuri in Puri several times. The survivor alleged that Mansuri had images of their intimate moments, which he subsequently used to blackmail her.
