Tragic Death of Diploma Student at CUTM Hostel Raises Concerns |
Bhubaneswar: A day after a NEET aspirant was found hanging in her hostel room in the city, a diploma student of Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) here was found dead in his hostel room on Friday.
Police sources said the deceased, a native of Korba district in Chhattisgarh, was a second-year student of diploma in mining engineering at the private university. When his friends found the door of his hostel room locked from inside on Friday, they called him several times. After not getting any response, the fellow students informed the hostel superintendent, who called the police. Police reached the hostel and opened the door to find the boy hanging from the ceiling fan. Police did not find any suicide note in the room.
“We have kept the CUTM student’s body at Capital Hospital morgue. After his parents arrive, a post-mortem examination will be conducted. We have started an investigation after registering an unnatural death case,” said Soumyakanta Baliarsingh, inspector in-charge of Jatni police station.
Preliminary inquiry suggests the deceased was not interested in studying mining engineering. “As he was not interested in the course, he was worried about his academic performance. But the exact reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained,” the IIC added.
Despite repeated attempts, CUTM’s registrar Anita Patra could not be contacted for her comment.
On Thursday, a Plus II student preparing for NEET-UG was found dead in her hostel room in Patia here. The girl from Salepur in Cuttack district was taking coaching from a private institute. Family members alleged she was put under pressure by the institute to perform well in her studies.
