Kendrapada: Nine workers, including a woman, were injured on Friday morning in an accident at the Tata Steel plant in Kalinganagar, Jajpur district. The incident occurred around 11:30 am in the plant’s melting shop when molten steel spilled out.
“The injured workers were immediately rushed to Tata Steel Medica Hospital at Kalinganagar. One worker has been discharged after first aid, while others are receiving treatment. The medical team has confirmed that everyone is out of danger,” said Sarvesh Kumar, chief of corporate communication, Tata Steel.
The company has informed relevant authorities and the workers’ families about the incident. “We have barricaded the site and an internal investigation is underway,” Kumar added.
Suprasana Mallick, additional superintendent of police, Kalinganagar, said senior officers have secured the area. “Tension mounted near the plant as workers blamed the management for the accident. Police investigation is underway,” said Mallick.
