Bengaluru: Traffic police conducted a special drive against drunk driving across the city and booked 800 motorists last week. Police said they will recommend cancellation of licences of those whose vehicles have been seized. The drive also covered motorists violating speeding restrictions.
A team of 50 officers conducted the special drives between Jan 27 and Feb 2; 62,300 motorists, driving trucks, buses, cars and autorickshaws or riding two-wheelers, were checked, and 800 of them were found driving under the influence of alcohol.
All the motorists will have to appear before court and pay fine. Their licences are with police and they’ll recommend to the respective regional transport office (RTO) to cancel them.
Cops booked 228 motorists for speeding within city limits. Most of the violators were two-wheeler riders and four-wheelers (cars and SUVs). Police collected a fine of Rs 2.3 lakh from the 228 motorists.
