Chennai: An 80-year-old woman, who was sexually assaulted inside her house nearly three weeks ago, died on Thursday.
She was attacked on April 5 by S Nagaraj, 39, police said. Nagaraj, reportedly in an inebriated state, broke into her house and assaulted her while she was recovering in bed from a surgery she had undergone two months ago.

The next day, the woman’s daughter found her unconscious with injuries. The woman was taken to a private hospital, where she received treatment until April 15. Based on a complaint, Royapettah All Women police arrested Nagaraj, who fractured his leg while attempting to evade arrest.
Investigations revealed that Nagaraj had previously undertaken welding work at the woman’s house.
Police said after the woman recovered, her children admitted her to an old-age home in Perambur, where she developed health complications on Thursday night and died. The case, currently registered as a suspicious death, would be altered based on postmortem findings, they added.
In a similar incident on April 10, a 75-year-old woman, alone at her house in Red Hills, was sexually assaulted by a man who had approached her seeking water. A suspect was later arrested in the case.
