74 Maoists have laid down arms in 5 years: CM to House | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: In the past five years, 74 Maoists have surrendered in the state, out of which 50 have been rehabilitated under the surrender policy, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the assembly in a written reply on Monday while responding to a question from Baramba MLA Bijay Kumar Dalabehera.
The CM’s written reply revealed the state has spent more than Rs 278 crore in five years, with the highest, Rs 75 crore, spent in 2023-24. This year, the govt spent Rs 40 crore (till the end of Feb). Since 2020-2021, there has been a steady increase in security related expenditure (SRE) fund in the state.
“Out of Rs 278 crore spent under SRE, expenses incurred in respect of the deployment of central forces is Rs 202 crore,” the CM said in the written reply.
Besides, the state has spent Rs 1.49 crore on the rehabilitation of surrendered extremists. Soon after a Maoist surrenders, Rs 1.5 lakh is given besides stipend of Rs 2,000 for three years.
Earlier, in the winter session, the CM informed the assembly that in 10 years, 123 Maoists had been killed in the state, while 11 security personnel were martyred in the line of duty. The reply further stated that in Maoist-affected areas, coordination with the police of neighbouring states is established to streamline anti-rebel operations.
Official information revealed that in the past 10 years, exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists took place in Malkangiri (5 times), Koraput (3 times), twice each in Ganjam and Nuapada, and once in Kandhamal and Sundargarh. Exchange of fire also occurred in Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh and Nabarangpur districts.
