Kendrapada: Minister of state for law and justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, announced on Thursday that 712 courts in Odisha have successfully implemented the e-courts project.
In response to a question raised in the Rajya Sabha by Subhasish Khuntia, Meghwal outlined the extensive digitisation efforts that have enabled 24/7 case status monitoring through the Case Information System (CIS).
The first phase of the e-courts project was completed in 2015. A total of 6,876 advocates and 494 litigants have registered for e-filing, with over 76,728 cases filed electronically.
Besides, the Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) has integrated all criminal courts, processing over 15 lakh FIRs and 8.27 lakh charge sheets. Orissa high court has also initiated live streaming of proceedings from four benches, making them available for public viewing.
As part of the digital infrastructure development initiative, 869 mobile phones were distributed to facilitate electronic summons services. Furthermore, over 15 crore pages of judicial data have been digitised across both the high court and district courts, while solar power installation is underway at 73 locations.
“All courts, including those in rural and remote areas, are being continuously upgraded with necessary information and communication technology infrastructure,” Meghwal said. The project includes regular training programs for stakeholders, including judges, judicial officers, and advocates.
The minister further highlighted the migration of the state’s judiciary to cloud technology via the National Government Cloud Services (Meghraj 2.0).
