7 girders of Sion ROB dismantled – The Times of India

Mumbai: The Central Railway carried out the task of dismantling seven girders for the Sion ROB on Sunday. A senior official said that the seventh was the last girder to be dismantled on Sunday evening, and the entire delaunching process was carried out successfully.
The CR carried out a block in the suburban section around Sion to conduct the dismantling work. The path has been cleared for the significant addition of the 5th and 6th railway lines between Kurla and Parel. On Sunday, the final and seventh girder of the bridge, in place since 1912, was removed successfully during a five-hour block between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Vidyavihar. The bridge, which served as an important connection between Dharavi, Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg, and the Eastern Express Highway, functioned as a crucial east-west link for more than a century. The closure of the bridge has resulted in considerable traffic congestion on alternative routes nearby, including the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road.
