7 Ganjam beneficiaries of solar scheme get R-Day parade invite | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Seven beneficiaries of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana from Ganjam district will attend the Republic Day parade at New Delhi’s Kartavya Path as special guests on Jan 26.
Among them is A Balakrushna (64), a retired ayurvedic officer, who has installed a 3 kW solar system in his home, which costs around Rs 2.25 lakh, and availed Rs 75,000 subsidy from the central govt. “Now I will apply for subsidy from the state govt,” he said.
He claimed that since he installed the system in June last year, he has not paid any power charges, saving Rs 1,000 on an average per month. “An officer of the ministry of new and renewable energy invited me to the Republic Day parade in New Delhi after they collected information about the installation of rooftop solar panels at my home in Gandhi Nagar here,” he said.
Jeetendriya Mohapatra (56) of Kautik Nagar in Goshaninuagaon, who was also invited as a special guest for the Republic Day parade, said he installed a 2 kW solar system on his rooftop in June last year by availing a bank loan. The project cost was Rs 1.35 lakh, and out of it, Rs 62,000 was availed as subsidy under the scheme. “Except for the meter rent, I haven’t paid for electricity use since installation, saving around Rs 2,000 monthly,” he said.
The seven invitees will travel from Bhubaneswar on Jan 24 and return on Jan 27.
