7 arrested for raping woman in Nagarkurnool | Hyderabad News
Hyderabad: Seven persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman near a temple in Urkondapeta village in Nagarkurnool district last week.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when the survivor, along with her husband, went to the temple for a darshan and stayed overnight on the premises.
During the night, the woman went out of the temple premises to relieve herself. The accused saw her and dragged her into the bushes. Hearing her cries, her husband went to her rescue, but the accused tied him to a tree and took turns raping the woman, Nagarkurnool police said.
The incident came to light on Monday after police got a whiff of it from the villagers. Following this, police traced the woman, registered a case, and deputed special teams to nab the accused.
Based on the clues given by the woman and her husband, police identified the accused as residents of a neighbouring village and arrested them. The accused, including an auto driver, an electrician, and a cook, were sent to judicial remand, while the woman’s statement was also recorded. She was sent for medical examination and counselling to the Bharosa centre.
Women and child welfare minister D Anasuya Seethakka spoke to police and women welfare department officials and enquired about the investigation status and the health of the woman and her husband. She also instructed them to provide necessary assistance to the couple and expedite the investigation to ensure strict punishment for the culprits.
