60-yr-old woman shot dead in city

Patna: Three unidentified criminals gunned down a 60-year-old woman after barging into her house in Ilahibagh locality under Gopalpur police station area in Patna on Tuesday morning. The incident triggered panic in the locality. After committing the crime, the armed assailants easily escaped on their motorbikes by brandishing weapons. Property dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the killing.
On receiving information, Patna (Sadar) SDPO Satyakam, along with Gopalpur police team, reached the spot and started probe into the incident. The police recovered two empty bullet shells from the place. The forensic team and dog squad also reached the spot to investigate the case.

The SDPO said the incident took place around 8.30am, when three unidentified criminals entered the house of Manorama Devi, wife of late Nannu Rai, who was living alone after the death of her husband. “The assailants fired four to five bullets on her after which she fell on the ground. They fled after the firing. On hearing the gunshots, the locals went inside the house and found Manorama lying in a pool of blood. She died on the spot,” he said.
The police sent the body for postmortem, said Satyakam. “The exact reason behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained,” he said.
Prima facie, the police suspect that property dispute could be the reason behind the killing. The investigating team is also examining the CCTV footage of the nearby areas to identify the criminals.
According to police, Manorama’s husband Nannu was also murdered about four years back. After this, she built a house in Ilahibagh and lived alone. There are six flats in the house, out of which four were on rent. Her son Sanjay Kumar lives with his family in Phulwarisharif, while her another son went missing about 10 years ago. He is traceless.
