Koraput/Berhampur: At least six persons, including two teenagers, were killed in lightning strikes in three districts on Friday. Three women were killed and an elderly man was critically injured in a lightning strike at Paridiguda village in Koraput district. Sources said the deceased — members of the same family — had taken shelter in a makeshift hut while working in the field as heavy rain and strong winds swept through the area.A sudden lightning strike hit the hut, killing three women on the spot.The deceased have been identified as Brudhi Mandinga (60), her granddaughter Kasa Mandinga (18), and Ambika Kashi (35) of Kumbharguda village. Brudhi and Kasa were residents of Paridiguda, police said.The injured, Hingu Mandinga, aged around 65, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Lakshmipur community health centre, where he is undergoing treatment, police added.Officials at the district emergency office said that financial assistance will be provided to the bereaved families as per the prevailing govt guidelines.Three more persons, including two women, were killed after being struck by lightning in Ganjam and Gajapati districts on Friday. Four others sustained injuries.The deceased were identified as Rita Gouda (31) and Rajendra Das (13) of Kekariberhampur and A Barida in Ganjam district, respectively, and Damayanti Mandal (30) of Kanakata village in Gajapati.Rita was going to a nearby forest to collect mangoes, while Rajendra was sitting in his verandah, when lightning struck them, sources said. Damayanti, along with some other women, was selling vegetables when lightning struck the area killing her. Four others sustained injuries and were admitted to Chandragiri hospital. Two of them were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, sources said.
