55-year-old man killed over land dispute, one arrested

Ara: A 55-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by a history-sheeter and his accomplices over a land dispute at Bakhri village under Udwantnagar police station of Bhojpur district on Thursday. Soon after the broad daylight murder, as police reached the spot, an exchange of fire took place between them and the four accused persons. One of the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was arrested later, while three others managed to flee.
Bhojpur superintendent of police Pramod Kumar told the media persons the shooting took place around 2pm when Virmatan Rajak sustained a bullet injury and later succumbed to his injuries on way to Sadar Hospital, Ara. “Two special police teams were rushed to the spot where they managed to surround the accused persons. The accused, however, started firing at the police and we had to resort to retaliatory firing in self-defence. One of the accused, Alok Baba, alias Sunny (32), sustained a bullet injury and is undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital. A resident of Naubatpur in Patna district, Sunny is a history-sheeter. The police are investigating his criminal antecedents.”

According to the police, both the victim and accused had a quarrel on Sunday. Then, the SC/ST police station personnel intervened. The police have recovered a pistol thrown by the accused in a canal. Further raids are going on to nab the other accused, they said.
