55 platoons of police forces to be deployed for Ind-Eng ODI | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Over 55 platoons of police forces will be deployed in and around Barabati Stadium in Cuttack for the upcoming One-Day International match between India and England on Feb 9, police commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said after holding a preparatory meeting with stakeholders, here on Wednesday.
“We are prioritising player and spectator safety, stadium security, and ensuring smooth vehicular movement for the teams, who are likely to arrive on Friday. Functionaries of Odisha Cricket Association, hotel, and airport have been briefed about their responsibilities,” Singh said.
The police commissioner said special arrangements have been made for crowd management and traffic control on match day. Quick Response Teams (QRT) and anti-sabotage units will be stationed at strategic locations. CCTV cameras have been installed throughout the stadium premises for continuous surveillance.
The police commissioner emphasised that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating security protocols. Additional forces will patrol the areas surrounding the stadium to prevent any untoward incidents. The entire security operation will be monitored from a central control room established specifically for the match day.
The stadium gates will open about four hours prior to the match, allowing spectators ample time for security checks. Separate entry points have been designated for VIP guests and the general audience. Water bottles will not be permitted inside the stadium.
On Oct 5, 2015, a group of unruly spectators had hurled water bottles inside Barabati Stadium during a T20 match between India and South Africa, triggering a nationwide uproar over crowd violence.
Following a recent directive by the Orissa high court on a PIL regarding fire safety improvements, authorities have planned comprehensive firefighting arrangements. Plans include deploying 250 fire personnel, 20 fire tenders, and fire extinguishers. Air conditioning systems in press areas, corporate sections, and VIP boxes are also being upgraded to prevent electrical faults.
