Thane: A five-year-old girl was killed and her three-year-old sister was seriously injured after they were hit by a reversing car in Thane’s Naupada area on Wednesday night, police informed. Naupada police have arrested the errant driver.
The two siblings live with their maternal grandmother, a roadside crockery vendor, on the streets in the Louiswadi area.
Police said that the incident took place when the two sisters were on their way to purchase sweets and failed to notice the reversing car, which hit them. “The driver, who was visiting a nearby temple, applied the brakes when he spotted the younger girl, but failed to notice the five-year-old, who came under the rear wheel,” said assistant police inspector Dinkar.
The injured girls were rushed to a local hospital, where the five-year-old girl was declared dead due to internal injuries, while her sibling was admitted for treatment.
Naupada police have registered a case against the driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
