Berhampur: Police on Monday busted a burglary gang and arrested five of its members, including a Plus II student, who were allegedly involved in six burglaries in different liquor outlets in Ganjam district in the last one month.
The accused were identified as Babula Dalei (21) of Burupada near Hinjili, Ranjan Raula (24) of Bhatakumarada near Purushottampur, Arun Nayak (20), Chitrasen Jena (24), and Ajay Nayak (18), a Plus II student of Arakhapur village under Buguda police limits.
A car, six mobile phones, a crowbar, and around Rs 1.75 lakh cash were seized from the accused, said SP (Ganjam) Subhendu Kumar Patra. During investigation, police learnt that they were involved in burglary cases in liquor shops in Bhanjanagar, Rambha, Beguniapada, Ganjam, and two cases in Belaguntha, he said.
The gang targeted IMFL outlets at night when the shops were shut. They entered the outlets by cutting the locks, police said. The gang looted around Rs 2.18 lakh cash from the IMFL outlet at Bhanjanagar on March 7 night.
