48% of elected MPs face serious criminal cases | Patna News – Times of India



Patna: Altogether 21 (53%) out of 40 newly elected MPs have criminal antecedents, while 19 (48%) have serious criminal cases such as attempt to murder, kidnapping, cheating and theft, pending against them, according to the latest report of Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) released on Tuesday.
According to the ADR report, a total of five winning candidates face attempt to murder charge whereas one candidate has declared cases related to crime against women.A total of 30 candidates emerged victorious from NDA, which included 12 each from JD(U) and BJP, five from LJP(RV) and one from HAM(S). On the other hand, nine candidates from Grand Alliance won, which included four from RJD, three from Congress and two from CPI-ML. One Independent also emerged victorious.
If the ADR report is to be believed, all the candidates from the RJD, CPI-ML, HAM(S) and Independent have criminal backgrounds, followed by BJP (67%), LJP-RV (40%), Congress (33%) and JD(U) (only 17%).
Of all, Independent MP from Purnia seat, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav leads the pack with a total of 41 cases pending against him. The cases relate to attempt to murder, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, cheating, dacoity and theft.
RJD MP Abhay Kushwaha has 16 cases, LJP (RV) MP Rajesh Verma has 12 cases, RJD MP Surendra Yadav has seven, another RJD MP Misa Bharti and HAM(S) MP Jitan Ram Manjhi have six cases each and BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal have a total of five cases.
Reports also state that out of total 40 MPs, 38 (95%) are “crorepaties”. Top three winning candidates with high assets are LJP(RV) MP from Vaishali Veena Devi (Rs 46 crore), BJP MP from Patna Sahib Ravi Shankar Prasad (Rs 40 crore) and BJP MP from Paschim Champaran Sanjay Jaiswal who owns assets worth Rs 29 crore.
