47 drowned in sea beaches in state in 5 years: CM | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The state reported 47 cases of drowning over the past five years in Puri and other beaches, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the assembly on Monday in a written reply to a question from Satyabadi MLA Om Prakash Mishra.
The reply revealed that vulnerable spots on sea beaches have been identified to avert drowning. Mishra wanted to know how many people drowned at Puri beach and what steps are being taken to ensure the safety of tourists on various beaches and implement measures for their immediate rescue.
“In the past five years, 47 people drowned in the sea along the beaches of Puri and other coastal areas of the state. To ensure the safety of tourists on various beaches, regular patrolling of the coastline is conducted. Dangerous and sensitive areas along the coast have been marked, and awareness is being raised to prevent people from venturing into the sea. Additionally, firefighters and home guards equipped with necessary tools are deployed as lifeguards to promptly rescue individuals being swept away by the water,” the CM stated.
