4 Telangana youth trapped in Myanmar jobs scam send SOS to kin

Hyderabad: Four youths from Telangana, victims of the Myanmar jobs scam, have sent desperate SOS messages to their families, pleading for immediate rescue. They fear their lives are at serious risk. Two victims hail from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, while the other two are from Nirmal district.
Ajmeera Santosh (22), a victim from Nimma Gudem village in Mahamutharam mandal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, had a brief conversation with his family as he managed to make a call on Tuesday. He revealed that nearly 30 other Indians, including individuals from Gujarat, Karnataka, and other states, are also being held hostage in Myanmar. Among them is a mouth cancer patient.
“We have become weak and are frail. Our request to chief minister A Revanth Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to get us out of this place,” Santosh said in a recorded voice message sent to his brother, Saraiah.
Santosh shared that he was unaware he would be smuggled into Myanmar, deceived by agents promising jobs in Thailand. “My brother did not even tell us that he was going to Myanmar, as he himself did not know he would be smuggled into that country by agents of fraudulent IT companies,” Saraiah explained.
Having paid Rs 3 lakh to an agent, Santosh hoped to secure a legitimate job, but he was forced to work in a cyber scam company in Myanmar. “Those who refuse to do the work are given electric shocks,” Saraiah added, recounting Santosh’s ordeal.
Santosh left for Thailand on December 8, 2024, and maintained contact with his family until February 22, 2025. “There was no call from him until March 22. My brother told us they had no access to the phone, but he desperately wants to be rescued,” Saraiah said.
On Tuesday, the families approached Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay and IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu, renewing their appeal for urgent assistance to bring the youths back home safely.
