4 docs barred from PG hostel in MKCG after student assaulted | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: MKCG Medical College and Hospital’s Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) has barred four doctors, including an assistant professor and three senior residents, from entering a postgraduate hostel after a student was allegedly assaulted late Saturday night.
The victim filed an FIR at Baidyanathpur police station on Sunday. “We have registered a case and issued notices to the accused doctors,” said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, adding that investigation into the motive is ongoing.
According to the complaint, the assault occurred around 12:30 am on the hostel premises. The academic council, which met on Monday, recorded statements from both the victim and the accused doctors.
“The matter was discussed thoroughly, and our recommendations will be forwarded to the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) for final action,” said Dr Suchitra Dash, principal-cum-superintendent of the medical college. “We cannot tolerate any indiscipline on college premises and will take strict action against those involved,” she added.
In response to the incident, JDA has implemented new security measures. PG hostel canteen will now operate only between 6 am and 11:30 pm. Additionally, tobacco and cigarette consumption, along with mass gatherings, have been strictly prohibited in the canteen.
The academic council, chaired by the principal and comprising the vice-principal, heads of departments and registrar, is expected to announce further measures pending the DMET’s decision.
