Balasore: Baripada Sadar police cracked a gold and cash robbery case involving a gold and jewellery dealer from Baripada town and arrested four members of a gang, including the mastermind, on Saturday.
Those arrested are Sanjeeb Sahu (34), Bibek Behera (29), Anubhab Kar (20), and Jayadeb Das (32), all residents of Badabazar under Baripada Town police limits.
The incident took place in the early hours of Jan 22 when Swarup Das (54), a gold and jewellery dealer from Lalbazar, was travelling to Kolkata via Balasore for business by car. Three assailants on a bike intercepted his vehicle near Manchabandha on NH-18 around 1 am and looted 110 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh cash.
A complaint was filed by Swarup Das at Baripada Sadar police station. During the probe, police found that the car driver, Sanjeev Sahu alias Jeetu, was in contact with the gang, providing them updates on the victim’s location.
Acting on this lead, police examined call records and raided different places. The stolen gold ornaments and Rs 6,500 cash were seized from the accused along with a car, bike, and mobile phones, said MA Khan, SI of Baripada Sadar police station.
