39 govt officers forced to retire for graft in 5 years: CM

Bhubaneswar: In five years, as many as 39 govt officers were forced to retire prematurely for indulging in corruption, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the assembly on Monday.
“As many as 120 employees were dismissed from their services. The vigilance also seized Rs 59.47 crore worth of ill-gotten properties from officials caught by the anti-corruption wing,” the CM said in response to a question from Rajanagar MLA Dhruba Charan Sahoo.
In 2024, the highest number of 30 officers were dismissed, out of whom 19 were related to vigilance traps, one in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case, and 10 miscellaneous cases. Out of the 39 govt employees who were given compulsory retirement, eight were related to trap cases, 10 in DA and 12 in miscellaneous cases, the reply revealed.
In another reply to a query by Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, the CM informed that between 2015 and 2025, 3,623 cases of corruption were registered, out of which final judgment came in 2,353 cases. Out of the 2,353 cases that were disposed of, conviction was secured in 939. There were acquittals in 1,053 cases. In the past 10 years, the highest number of 575 cases were registered in 2016, followed by 504 in 2017. The highest number of 124 people were convicted in 2023.
