According to data from the divisional board, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam in Mumbai’s division will now host 3,58,854 students, up from last year’s 3,41,184. The number of male students has increased by 13,000, bringing the total to 1,87,362, while female registrations have climbed by 5,000, reaching 1,71,490. Among them, two transgender students will also be appearing for the exams, a small but significant mark of inclusion in the state’s education system.
The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams mirror this upward trajectory. This year, 3,38,478 students will take the exams, compared to 3,21,116 last year. The Commerce stream has added 5,000 students, reaching 1,63,965 registrants. The Science stream, long a stronghold for competitive careers, has seen an even sharper rise—1,25,240 students, up from 1,17,566. The Arts stream, meanwhile, has seen its own quiet revolution, growing from 40,756 to 45,415 students.
With this surge in enrollment, the logistical puzzle of conducting the exams across Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts has only grown more intricate. A senior official from the State Education Board assured that measures are being taken to accommodate the increased numbers, ensuring that every student has the space and support to take their shot at success.
