32-yr-old climbs atop electricity tower, brought down after 6 hrs | Bhubaneswar News

Balangir: A 32-year-old man with a history of mental health issues climbed atop a high voltage electricity tower, the second time he had done so within a year, sending police, fire officials and local administration into a tizzy.
The incident was reported from Khamarmunda village in Balangir district on Wednesday. The dramatic turn of events ended after Sidheswar Bhoi (32) was rescued from the 200-foot tower following more than six hours of sustained effort by the rescue team.
Bhoi was later admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for treatment. He had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues for the past couple of years.
“It was a difficult task for the rescue team to bring the man down. But we were able to convince him and save his life,” said Anita Pradhan, IIC of Puintala police station.
The tower was carrying a live 400KV wire. Electricity department officials disconnected the power supply, which allowed the operation to proceed successfully, Pradhan said.
According to reports, Bhoi left home in the morning to take a bath in the village pond. Instead of heading to the pond, he climbed the electric tower. Villagers spotted him and informed the police.
