Keonjhar: The additional district judge’s court here on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his fellow villager in 2019. Sankar Behera of Hundabanspal village was found guilty of killing Kalu Behera over past enmity.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. On failing to pay, he would have to undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.According to additional public prosecutor Prafulla Kumar Patra, the incident took place on May 26, 2019. The accused took Kalu out of his house around 7 pm in the presence of family members. When Kalu didn’t return home that night, his family launched a search but couldn’t locate him.The following day, villagers discovered Kalu’s body near Bahutia bridge. His elder brother, Darshan Behera, filed a murder complaint at Pandapara police station. During investigation, police found Sankar killed Kalu and disposed of the body near the bridge. The accused was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Additional district judge Mamita Das pronounced the verdict after examining 24 witnesses.
