The car finally came to a halt after crashing into an unoccupied state govt quarter, according to police reports.Among the injured, a 70-year-old man was initially taken to Capital Hospital and later transferred to AIIMS as his condition worsened. Such dangerous behaviour demands strict punishment,” said Birabara Hota, a local vendor.Upon receiving information, Capital police arrived at the scene, detained Das and seized his vehicle. “Subsequent testing confirmed Das was drunk. A case of rash driving has been registered, and investigation is ongoing,” a police officer said. The latest incident adds to the growing concerns about drunk driving in Bhubaneswar’s commercial areas. “The driver is to be blamed for the incident. Police should also ensure stricter enforcement in commercial areas,” Namita Behera, a bystander, said.Police assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused driver. Residents called for enhanced traffic monitoring and stricter enforcement of drunken driving regulations, as the accident site lies between two major markets — Unit I Haat and Rajdhani Haat — which witness heavy pedestrian movement.
