Hyderabad: Drugs Control Adminstration (DCA) in a joint operation with the Telangana prohibition and excise department, arrested three individuals in the city for selling Codeine cough syrup without prescription. Licences of two medical shops, situated in Vidyanagar and Old Bowenpally, which provided this drug, were cancelled by the officials.
The three arrested were identified as Nalla Rajini, a peddler, and Anmol Kumar Singhal and Dinesh Kumar Goyal, both medical shop owners.
Acting on a lead, the officers recently intercepted Rajini carrying 13 bottles of Codeine near Moula Ali bridge. She was taking them for delivery to an unknown person.
Rajini revealed that she procured the syrups from Singhal’s Generic World medical shop in Vidyanagar, after which officials raided it and found 80 such syrup bottles, which were being indiscriminately sold without a doctor’s prescription. Singhal, in turn, disclosed to officials that he bought the bottles from Goyal’s Himalaya Pharma in Old Bowenpally.
