Berhampur: Three people, including two young women, drowned in separate incidents in Ganjam and Gajapati districts on Wednesday afternoon.
In the first incident, two women from Ramachandrapur village in Ganjam district drowned while bathing in a village pond (Badabandh). The victims were identified as Sapna Dakua (31) and Jyoti Swain (19). “The women might have slipped while bathing,” said Srinibash Sethy, IIC, Hinjili police station. Locals found their bodies floating and rushed them to Hinjili sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
In another incident, Hanumant Ramarao (60) from Machhamara village in Gajapati district drowned in the Mahendratanaya river. His body was discovered by residents and taken to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have registered unnatural death cases at both Hinjili and Gurandi police stations. Following the post-mortem exams at their respective district hospitals, the bodies were handed over to family members.
