3-day festival of classical dance, martial arts concludes | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: The 21st Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav, celebrating Odisha’s rich cultural heritage through classical and martial arts performances, concluded here on Sunday.
The three-day festival began with the felicitation of Odissi dancer Guru Durga Charan Ranbir, who was recently conferred the Padma Shri. On the second day, Buddha Samman 2025 was conferred upon Guru Ramhari Das, singer, composer, and musicologist, for his lifetime contribution to Odissi music. The Guru Gangadhar Smruti Samman 2025 was awarded to Odissi danseuse Sharmila Biswas, renowned singer and composer Sangita Gosain, mardala exponent Guru Kalandi Charan Parida and art promoter Khirod Mohan Pattnaik.
With more than 200 artistes participating, the festival exemplified the unity in diversity of Indian classical and folk dances. Apart from Odissi, performers also presented Bharatanatyam, Mallakhamb, Attakalari martial dance, Chhau, and a spellbinding fusion of Odissi, Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam.
The festival was jointly organised by the department of Odia language, literature and culture and Orissa Dance Academy, in association with Art Vision.
“The Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav once again proved to be a landmark event, reinforcing Odisha’s status as a global centre for classical arts and cultural heritage. We witnessed some breathtaking performances celebrating India’s artistic brilliance,” said Guru Aruna Mohanty, secretary of the academy.
