Bhubaneswar: Rising temperatures and high humidity continued to affect life in the state, with health authorities reporting that 282 people fell ill due to heat-related conditions so far this summer.Despite the surge in cases, officials confirmed that none required to be hospitalised so far.Director of public health Dr Nilakantha Mishra said all 282 individuals sought treatment at outpatient departments in govt hospitals and were discharged on the same day. IMD has forecast that the prevailing hot and humid conditions are likely to persist until Friday. Temperatures soared above 40°C in several districts, with Jharsuguda recording the highest of 43°C on Tuesday. Bhubaneswar recorded 37.4°C, with humidity ranging up to 72%. Coastal regions are experiencing heightened discomfort due tohumidity levels ranging between 45% and 85%, significantly increasing the heat index.IMD has issued a heatwave warning for several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Khurda, alerting residents to potential health risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and those with pre-existing conditions. IMD forecast that rain and thunderstorms are likely to occur at some places in the next couple of days.
