27-Year-Old Sentenced to 10 Years for Raping Married Woman | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: Ad hoc additional district & sessions-cum-fast-track special court in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 26-year-old married woman.
Judge Ajay Kumar Mohanty found the accused guilty under sections 376 (rape), 453 (house trespass) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, failing to pay which he would have to serve an additional two months in prison.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on Jan 16 when the man forcefully entered the woman’s house while she was alone and sexually assaulted her. The accused also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the crime.
The woman filed an FIR in the local police station the next day, leading to his immediate arrest.
Special public prosecutor Subash Bhusan Mohapatra said the court pronounced its verdict after hearing the testimonies of 15 witnesses, including the survivor, and medical report.
