Patna: Altogether 23 persons were arrested on Friday in connection with the attack on a police team that had gone to arrest some criminals at East Aurahi village under Simraha police station area in Araria district on Thursday night. Three cops were injured in the attack by villagers. The attackers had also freed a detained criminal.
According to the police, an FIR was registered against 36 named persons and 40 unidentified persons at Simraha police station in this matter. “We are identifying the other persons involved in the attack by asking villagers and conducting a thorough search in the area. No one will be allowed to create disturbances in the legal process,” said Mukesh Sah, Forbesganj SDPO, who is leading a special investigation team to probe the matter.
The injured were identified as additional SHO of Simraha police station, Imtiyaz Khan, constable Masood Alam and chowkidar Santosh Kumar Paswan. Imtiyaz was referred to Araria sadar hospital after primary treatment at Forbesganj sub-divisional hospital. Senior police officials also visited the hospital to meet injured cops.
“We had received a tip-off that some criminals have gathered in the village with firearms and were planning some criminal activities. Acting on the information, a police team led by additional station officer, Imtiyaz Khan, arrived at the spot, and detained one criminal. They were trying to leave the village, but villagers attacked them. During the attack, the villagers assaulted the police personnel and the chowkidar. They also managed to free a detained criminal. To disperse villagers, the police fired three rounds in the air and left the village,” said Sah.
