211 water supply projects worth Rs 3,756 crore approved for Odisha under AMRUT 2.0 | Bhubaneswar News



Kendrapada: The ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) has approved 211 water supply projects worth Rs 3,756.57 crore for Odisha under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, minister of state Tokhan Sahu informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
Responding to a question by MP Sasmit Patra, Sahu revealed that 109 projects worth Rs 1,678.01 crore are specifically designated for AMRUT cities. The state has already completed all 191 projects sanctioned under the original AMRUT scheme, utilizing Rs 1,714.42 crore, including the central assistance of Rs 796.97 crore.
The completed projects include 130 water supply initiatives worth Rs 1,535.57 crore and 13 sewerage/septage management projects valued at Rs 138.21 crore. Additionally, 137 water body rejuvenation projects worth Rs 184.31 crore have been approved under AMRUT 2.0.
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0), launched in Oct 2021, Odisha has received an allocation of Rs 209.80 crore. The state has secured approval for proposals worth Rs 417.69 crore, with a central share of Rs 157.73 crore. So far, the state has claimed Rs 70.95 crore from the approved central funds.
The minister noted that Odisha has achieved significant progress in waste management, processing 96.47% (1,759 MT/D) of its total daily waste generation of 1,823 MT/D across cities.
While AMRUT includes provisions for storm water drainage to prevent flooding, Odisha has not undertaken any drainage projects under the scheme. The minister emphasized that urban flooding management primarily falls under the jurisdiction of state govts and urban local bodies, with the central govt providing supplementary support through various schemes and advisories.
