CHENNAI: Two rowdies were hacked to death by a gang in Kotturpuram on Sunday night. Police stated that the attack was led by notorious anti-social element ‘Sukku Kaapi’ Suresh, in retaliation for the 2022 murder of his girlfriend, Sahinsha, in Kelambakkam.
The victims, Arunkumar (25) and his associate Padappai Suresh (25), were attacked while sleeping near the Nagavalli Amman Temple around 10 pm. The eight-member gang, riding on three motorcycles, repeatedly hacked them before fleeing. Residents and onlookers alerted the police, and the injured were rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital (GRH), where Arunkumar was declared dead on arrival, while Padappai Suresh succumbed to his injuries later that night.
A police team, led by Kotturpuram Assistant Commissioner Bharathirajan, has launched a manhunt for the suspects using CCTV footage. Investigations revealed that ‘Sukku Kaapi’ Suresh and his gang planned the attack after receiving intelligence about a possible revenge attempt by Arunkumar’s brother, Arjunan.
Arunkumar, a known history-sheeter from Chitra Nagar, had faced seven criminal cases, while Padappai Suresh had at least six cases in Tambaram and Tiruvallur. The prime suspect, ‘Sukku Kaapi’ Suresh, has over 17 criminal cases registered against him in the city.
Police are intensifying efforts to track down and apprehend the suspects.
