CHENNAI: Two rowdies were hacked to death by a gang in Kotturpuram on Sunday night. Police stated that the gang, led by anti-social element Arunkumar, murdered ‘Sukku Kaapi’ Suresh (25) and his associate Padappai Suresh (25) in retaliation for the 2022 murder of his girlfriend, Sahinsha, in Kelambakkam. The city police have formed three teams to track down the assailants.
According to police reports, an eight-member gang on three motorcycles attacked the two rowdies while they were asleep under the influence of alcohol near the Nagavalli Amman temple in Kotturpuram around 10 pm. The gang repeatedly hacked them before fleeing the scene, leaving the victims in a pool of blood. Residents and onlookers alerted the police, and the injured were rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital (GRH). Doctors declared that Sukku Kaapi Suresh had died on the way, while Padappai Suresh succumbed to his injuries without responding to treatment later that night.
Kotturpuram Assistant Commissioner of Police Bharathirajan and his team formed three special squads and tracked the suspects using CCTV footage. Preliminary investigations revealed that Arunkumar (25) and his gang were behind the double murder. Police confirmed that Arunkumar, a known history-sheeter, hails from Chitra Nagar in Kotturpuram.
In 2022, Arunkumar’s girlfriend, Sahinsha, was murdered by Sukku Kaapi Suresh and his gang in Kelambakkam. Following intelligence about a possible revenge attack by Arunkumar’s group, Sukku Kaapi Suresh and his brother Arjunan devised a plan to kill him. In response, Arunkumar and his gang waited for an opportunity to strike.
Acting on a tip-off, Arunkumar’s gang arrived at the Nagavalli Amman temple, where they hacked Sukku Kaapi Suresh to death. Unable to locate his brother Arjunan, they killed Suresh’s associate, Padappai Suresh, before fleeing.
A senior investigating officer stated that Sukku Kaapi Suresh had over 17 criminal cases, while Padappai Suresh was involved in at least six cases in Tambaram and Tiruvallur districts. The main suspect, Arunkumar, has seven cases registered against him in the city.
