Berhampur: Two girls, aged 11 and 15, were allegedly abducted and gang-raped by four miscreants in Ganjam district on Tuesday night. The incident came to light late on Thursday when the mother of one of the survivors lodged a police complaint. The girls, both cousins, had gone to attend a marriage ceremony in a village in the district with their family members. One of the girls belonged to a nearby village, while the other lived around 40km away. At the wedding they were met by two men, one of whom was known to a survivor. The girls were apparently lured by the two and they left with the men on their motorbikes. When the girls could not be found, worried family members started looking for them in nearby areas. They returned early on Wednesday and when asked about their whereabouts during the night, they narrated their ordeal to the family members.Police said the two accused took the girls to nearby location where two other accused were already present. They four allegedly held the girls captive and raped them, before abandoning them.Family members of the girls informed some of the villagers about the incident and they decided to lodge a police complaint. Police said the accused managed to flee from the village after they learnt that a case has been registered against them.“We have formed two police teams and have launched a manhunt to nab the accused,” SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said.
