2 men on bike die after collision with stationary tempo on WEH | Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: A 20-year-old motorcyclist and his 25-year-old friend seated pillion lost their lives after the two-wheeler collided into a stationary tempo parked on the north-bound arm of the Western Express Highway at Vile Parle East early on Thursday.The tempo had developed a flat tyre but the driver did not put up reflectors or barricades to alert other motorists, resulting in the crash, police said. An FIR was registered against the tempo driver, Arvind Kumar Yadav, by the Vile Parle police.The motorcyclist, Chirag Nair, and his friend, Tushar Khandagle, were headed back home from work around 4.30am, when the crash occurred. Nair lived at Amboli in Jogeshwari West. Khandagle lived in a police quarters at Andheri as his uncle is a sub-inspector with the Mumbai police force. The two young men, both hotel management graduates, worked in a restobar in Bandra and had completed their work shift. Nair owned the two-wheeler and was wearing a helmet.Police said the tempo had developed a flat tyre and the driver had taken the wheel off after parking the vehicle on the left side of the Western Express Highway. He was in the midst of changing the tyre when the two-wheeler came up and collided into the tempo. Police said Nair may not have seen the tempo as the reflectors were not on. “Both men were thrown off the bike due to the impact. The visor on Nair’s helmet got smashed and the plastic pierced his face. He was bleeding profusely from his right ear,” said a police official. Both men were rushed to a public hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination. Several families from the police quarters, where Khandagle lived, turned up to support his kin. The tempo driver (Yadav) fled after the crash and the police are looking for him.
