2 men get life imprisonment for doc’s murder | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Eleven years after the murder of additional district medical officer (ADMO) Durbadal Mishra at Sonepur in Subarnapur district in 2014, a court on Saturday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment. The additional district and sessions judge court, Sonepur, held Ashok Sahu and Pratyush Panda, both residents of the town, guilty. The court found the motive of murder was revenge arising from deep-seated anger against Mishra for death of Pratyush’s eight-month-old nephew due to perceived negligence. Mishra, then 51, was a paediatrician. He was found murdered barely 40 metres from his residence. The duo had slit the doctor’s throat around 10.45 pm with a sharp weapon. “As many as 26 witnesses were examined, and 53 exhibits and 14 material evidences (objects) were produced in court. In the 62-page judgment, the court was convinced that it was a case of heinous crime and pre-planned,” said Kanheilal Pradhan, public prosecutor.Police said the convicted duo left some live cartridges at the spot to hoodwink police and derail the probe. Police also mentioned that the duo was keeping an eye on the doctor’s movements. “After the doctor reached home, staying an hour in the clinic, he parked his motorcycle. As he didn’t enter the house despite his bike being parked, his father opened the main gate and saw at a distance his body lying in a pool of blood,” recalled a police officer.
