2 killed in fight over stake money in Chikkaballapur

Chintamani: Two people were allegedly hacked to death over sharing of a wagered amount in a gambling game at Batlahalli village of Chintamani taluk in Chikkaballapur district on Sunday evening.
The deceased are Lingamaiah, 40, and Prathap, 30, while one Sagar is battling for life at hospital. Besides the stake amount, previous enmity is also said to be a reason for the murder.
Krishnappa was sitting in his house along with his family members, including his brother and his children, when about five people including John, Vamshi and Babu entered the house around 7.30pm. The intruders began a fight with Lingamaiah, Prathap and Sagar, family members of Krishnappa, over a dispute concerning stake amount in a previous gambling game. When the elderly people tried to intervene, the assailants brushed them aside and attacked Lingamaiah, Prathap and Sagar with knives and inflicted serious injuries on them. Before the other family members could catch hold of them, the assailants escaped.
Lingamaiah, Prathap and Sagar were taken to a nearby hospital. While Lingamaiah and Prathap were declared brought dead, Sagar was shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment.
Kushal Chouske, superintendent of police, Chikkaballapur, who visited the village late at night said the family members of the deceased have given certain names and police are searching for them. He said preliminary investigations have suggested that there was long time enmity between rival groups.
