2 Iti Students Drown During Idol Immersion In Baripada | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Two ITI students drowned during the immersion of Lord Vishwakarma’s idol at Kathapala check dam near Kathaipal under Betanoti police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Friday. Fire officials fished out their bodies after four hours of operation.
The victims have been identified as Thakura Soren from Bhandan village and Bhagyaprakash Patra from Badagaon village.Both are students of a private ITI and Plus II college in Baripada.
Sources said students, who were residing in the hostel, had gone with their friends to the canal to immerse the idol. Bhagyaprakash accidentally slipped into the water. Thakura jumped in to save him. But due to heavy rain, the water level in the canal was high and both got trapped between the culvert gates.
Upon receiving the information, ODRAF team, Betanoti SDPO Sudarshan Dash and fire teams from Betanoti and Baripada, rushed to the spot. “A complaint has been lodged in connection with the incident. Bodies have been sent for autopsy,” said Betnoti SDPO Sudarshan Dash.

In Kadadhe village, Maval taluka, milk supplier Sanjay Shirke and his son Aditya drowned while immersing a Ganesh idol. Aditya struggled to return from the water after immersion, leading Sanjay to attempt a rescue. Both tragically drowned, with their bodies later recovered by local rescue teams.
