2 get jail for three and a half years for outraging modesty of girl

Kendrapada: A fast-track special court in Kendrapada on Tuesday sentenced two persons to three and a half years of imprisonment for outraging the modesty of a 19-year-old girl 10 years back.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,500 each on the convicts, failure to pay which would result in their sentences being increased by one year.
JudgeTribikram Keshari Chinara convicted Dilip Das (42) and Chagala Maharana (44) under sections 354 and 323 of the IPC for trying outrage the modesty of the girl and assaulting her on November 28, 2015, when she was alone in her house. Unable to bear the humiliation, the girl consumed poison but survived.
The girl’s mother filed an FIR in the local police station on Dec 2, 2015, against the duo. Acting on the complaint, police arrested them.
Eight witnesses, including the girl, deposed before the court. After relying on the statements of the girl and others, the court convicted both the accused, said Sanjay Kumar Jena, public prosecutor.
