2 detained for abducting woman, assaulting her friend | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Maitri Vihar police on Tuesday detained two suspects in connection with the abduction of a woman from the Lumbini Vihar area here in the early hours of Monday.
Four men allegedly abducted the 24-year-old woman after attacking her 26-year-old friend while the duo were heading back from a bar-cum-restaurant in Patia area around 3 am.
“We have traced the car and identified all the four accused involved in the crime. Raids are being conducted to arrest them,” DCP Pinak Mishra said.
Though Mishra did not disclose the identities of the kidnappers and their motive, police sources indicated that the perpetrators were known to the victim, whose ring ceremony was recently held. Invsetigators also believe the accused were familiar with her friend, who sustained injuries from a sharp weapon near the Utkal Hospital-Lumbini Vihar road.
The injured man, however, said he didn’t know the attackers. “I don’t know any of them. They might have known my friend. I also do not have any previous enmity with anyone,” he told journalists on Tuesday.
He stated that he was returning late at night from his part-time job. “I picked up my friend, who also had her night shift in a company. My two-wheeler ran out of fuel at an isolated place in Lumbini Vihar. A car stopped near us, from which two men emerged and attacked me with a sharp weapon, while two others forced her into the vehicle,” he said, adding, “I called the police and my elder brother.”
Police denied the woman was sexually assaulted and stated the motive behind the kidnapping would become clear when all the accused are arrested.
