2 brothers held for hacking man to death
Keonjhar: Two brothers were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly hacking a man to death over an illicit relationship in Panupasi village in Keonjhar district. The accused were identified as Prashant Naik and his brother, Ajay Naik.
The victim, identified as Subrata Mahakud of Panupasi, was found dead near the house of one of the accused on Monday morning.
According to family members, Mahakud left home around 7 pm on Sunday and didn’t return. Villagers discovered his body the next morning, bearing multiple hack wounds.
“Both accused have been arrested after obtaining prima facie evidence. We have also seized the weapon used in the crime,” said Subhranta Kumar Jena, inspector in-charge of Ghatagaon police station.
Probe revealed the murder was the fallout of an alleged illicit relationship between the deceased and Prashant’s wife. “Preliminary investigation suggests the brothers killed Mahakud over his alleged affair with Prashant’s wife,” Jena added.
A forensic team assisted the police in collecting evidence from the crime scene. Further investigation is underway.
