18-year-old girl dies after falling off scooter, run over by truck in Mumbai | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: An 18-year-old girl was killed after a two-wheeler she was riding pillion fell and came under a truck near the CP Tank bus stop in South Mumbai late on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Siya Mehta, a resident of Girgaum, was rushed to Saifee Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
According to a formal police report filed by her cousin, Mehul Mehta, at the VP Road Police Station, Siya and her friend Dinika Bafna were travelling on a scooter from CP Tank towards Bhuleshwar.
Dinika, who was reportedly riding the scooter at high speed and without a valid driving licence, attempted to overtake a truck from the left side in a reckless manner.
However, she realised that she would be unable to overtake, and Dinika allegedly applied the brakes abruptly, causing the scooter to skid and both riders to fall. Siya tragically landed near the rear left wheel of the truck, which crushed her abdomen.
The truck driver did not stop to help and fled the scene without informing authorities or offering any medical aid.
Siya was rushed to Saifee Hospital, where doctors declared her dead before admission at 3:50 PM. Her family, particularly her father, Uttam Mehta, was reportedly devastated and unable to accompany her body to the police station due to the emotional trauma.
The eyewitness account provided by Mehul Mehta, along with mobile video footage obtained at the scene, clearly implicated both Dinika for negligent driving and the unidentified truck driver for fleeing the scene. Police are attempting to trace the truck and its driver.
